David Meltzer, Co-Founder & CEO - Sports 1 Marketing (Interview)

An excerpt from the interview of David Meltzer - a three-time international best-selling author, a Top 100 Business Coach, the executive producer of Entrepreneur‘s #1 digital business show, Elevator Pitch, and host of the top entrepreneur podcast, The Playbook. He became a millionaire just 9 months out of law school. By the age of 32, he had acquired a net worth of more than $100 million.

Q) You've made The Playbook podcast come to life. It’s evolved over time. I would love for you to throw some light on that. How did you come up with the idea?

A) I've always had radio shows. Traditional sports radio, with the Los Angeles Angels, I had a sports blender show, and I was listening to podcasts and I had such great access to these Hall of Fame athletes originally and I’d just like to know their playbook to success because I've seen the spirit of excellence, and what if I could capture the spirit of excellence within this podcast! At the same time, I was developing an entrepreneurial TV show with Entrepreneur Magazine called Elevator Pitch.

As those two tangentially evolved together, I started seeing some similarities between great athletes and great entrepreneurs and the spirit of excellence and the courage and the consistent, persistent pursuit of the potential, and the ‘must be when you can be’ attitude and the failures and the trials and all these great stories and so, it became not only celebrities, athletes, entertainers, but executives and entrepreneurs and social-preneurs and philanthropic-preneurs, anyone I can get. It became the top entrepreneurial podcast in America. We've extended it out to different coaching sessions and live speeches and other things.

I still don't have any sponsorship. I get offered so many different sponsors and product placements.

"It's about empowering people to empower people to be happy. If you can make a lot of money, help a lot of people and have a lot of fun, that's what we're trying to get at with The Playbook. When you allow things to come through you for others, you're making more room for what you want."
